General informations about PIFPE

  1. 1.    Product description

PIFPE fire retardant product is made respecting  the quality management system provided by ISO 9001:2008, and is so designed that satisfies the conditions of „technical rules of  fireproofing of the wood and textile combustible materials used in building” C 58 – 96.

The PIFPE fireproofing product is an ecologic film. It’s a viscous solution based on sodium silicate, with light brown colour.

PIFPE can be used both for fireproofing wood materials, and reed used inside civil and industrial constructions. Wood fireproofing efficiency of PIFPE are within the limits permitted by regulations of the National Centre for Fire Safety and Civil Protection of Romania.

In accordance with Law 10/1995 amended by Law 123/1997 on the quality of construction, and the results obtained during tests conducted by certified laboratories of the National Centre for Fire Safety Romania and Civil Protection Romania and laboratory tests conducted in lab Omnitest Romania, the ecological product PIFPE, correspond to the user performs and meets the following performance criteria corresponding to the six essential requirements expressed by this law:

– Mechanical resistance and stability

Result: The product does not influence this requirement

– Fire Safety

Result:  The fire reaction class of PIFPE treated wood is C-sl, d0 according to the official report no. 08.021/10.09.2008 of National Centre for Fire Safety and Civil Protection Romania.

– Hygiene, health and environment

Result: The product don’t contain any toxic compounds, pollutants and radioactive. All the substances contained  aren’t  in the list of substances with human carcinogenic potential. Verified under the REACH Regulation (EC) no. 1097/2006 of the European Parliament concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals and HG 956/2005 on the placing on the market of biocidal products modified with HG 933/2010.

– Safety in use

Result: The product does not influence this requirement

– Protection against noise

Result: The product does not influence this requirement

– Energy saving and thermal insulation

Result: The product does not influence this requirement

The quality of the fire retardant ecological wood film PIFPE was evaluated and found as satisfactory by ICECON SA, IGSU (National Centre for Fire Safety and Civil Protection Romania), and Omnitest Romania lab. These entities concluded in the Technical Agreement: „The of the fire retardant ecological wood film PIFPE is accepted for using in areas where is required and has a favorable technical approval”

2.       Remarks on fire retardant ecological wood film PIFPE

PIFPE can also be used successfully as a complete wood protection treatment. It has a high remanence and protects the wood from the destructive action of molds and Basidiomycetes wood fungi. Because PIPFE is based on silica composition, it form on the cellulose fibers a chemical structure comparable to that of glass, this leading to complete protection against Xylophage insects, resulting an increased resistance of the treated wood.

3.       How to use PIFPE

The applying of PIFPE on wood is by brushing, spraying or dipping wood products in solution. When applying by brush or spray take into account the specific consumption of 0.750 kg/m2. Drying time is between 8-24 hours, depending on air temperature and humidity.

If the wood has been treated previously with other protection products based on organic solvents, it is absolutely necessary cleaning of the treated surfaces by chemical methods.

Quality of fireproofing work is subject to compliance with execution phases and specific consumption imposed by the manufacturer.

The product will be applied only on wood elements that will not be subject to further mechanical treatment.

Application of the product is available both to new or old wod. Keep in attention thar for old wood, first of all, intentify the nonconformities caused by structural or biological attacks. (correct the nonconformities and after you can apply PIFPE on wood).

4.       Durability and maintenance

The fireproofing work durability of PIFPE is 5 years, guaranteed by the manufacturer with implementing rules and in normal operating conditions.

Product warranty is 12 months from delivery, if it is kept in tightly closed original container in areas away from direct sunlight.

5.       Official Certifications

–          Technical Council for Agreements in Construction has provided the Technical Approval of PIFPE number 016-03/268-2008

–          General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Romania, represented by the National Centre for Fire Safety and Civil Protection Romania  has provided a Certificate for PIFPE.

–          Romanian Naval Authority issued a certificate of technical capability as a producer of services and equipment for naval works.

6.      Test reports

–          General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Romania, represented by the National Centre for Fire Safety and Civil Protection Romania has developed a test report.

–          Laboratory OMNITEST Bucharest had developed several reports of specific tests.

–          National Institute of Wood Romania developed a test report: evaluation report bugs, molds and fungi.
